Five Big West players were named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America Men’s Soccer All-Far West Region Teams today, including UC Santa Barbara junior Nick DePuy’s selection to the first team.
DePuy, a native of Irvine, Calif., becomes the 17th player in UC Santa Barbara history to be named first team all-region. The honor comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that tabbed DePuy a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the highest individual award in college soccer.
The forward contributed conference-best totals in goals (15), points (31), shots (80) and game-winning goals (8) in 2015, as the Gauchos finished 14-7-2 overall, won the Big West North Division championship, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in school history.
DePuy’s eight game-winning goals rank No. 2 in Big West single-season history, while his 80 shots are tied for seventh. He earned his second consecutive Big West Offensive Player of the Year honor as the centerpiece of a Gaucho offense that deposited a league-high 42 goals.
He became the first player in league history to capture three straight Offensive Player of the Week awards after a stretch in which he scored six goals, including four game-winners, over a five-game stretch. The six-foot-four DePuy claimed National Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5 after notching three goals with two game-winners in road wins over UC Irvine and CSUN.
CSUN senior Trevor Morley and UC Santa Barbara sophomore Kevin Feucht were tabbed NSCAA All-Far West Region second team members.
Morley made all-region for the second time in his career, as he was a third team choice in 2013. Morley earned Big West Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2015 while scoring a team second-best four goals.
Feucht, an anchor in the UCSB midfield, finished second on the squad with six goals and third in points with 14. He had two game-winning goals.
The UC Riverside forward tandem of Michael Salazar and Norberto Ochoa received third team all-region recognition. Ochoa scored seven goals to tie for third in the Big West, while Salazar’s six goals tied him for seventh.
