MAC Hermann Trophy Announcement

UC Santa Barbara junior Nick DePuy and Cal State Fullerton senior Rebecca Wilson took one step closer toward winning the most coveted award in college soccer, as today they were named semifinalists for the 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual intercollegiate award administered by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and presented annually at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.  This year’s trophy presentation and banquet will take place Friday, Jan. 8.

DePuy and Wilson stand among a total of 30 NCAA Division I players (15 men, 15 women) vying for the prestigious award.

DePuy, a native of Irvine, Calif., becomes the fourth Gaucho ever to be selected as a semifinalist for the award, and the first since Luis Silva in 2011.

He earned Big West Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season, pounding home a conference-best 15 goals and leading the nation with eight game-winners.

The forward won three consecutive Big West Offensive Player of the Week awards earlier this season, the first in league history to do so, during a stretch in which he scored six goals (and four game-winners) over a five-game period.  The Gauchos are 16-0-4 all-time when DePuy scores a goal.

DePuy also led the Big West in points (31) and shots (80), helping the Gauchos to their third consecutive North Division crown, a record of 14-7-2, and the program’s 12th trip to the NCAA Tournament, which culminated with its seventh appearance in the Sweet 16.

Wilson, who hails from Placentia, Calif., recorded 19 goals and 10 assists for 48 total points in a stellar senior season.  She finished No. 2 on the Cal State Fullerton single-season list for goals, assists and points.

The 5-6 forward also established a school record with 10 game-winning goals, a mark that also topped the nation’s leaderboard.  Wilson garnered Big West Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second time in a row, helping lead the Titans to their third consecutive conference tournament title.

NCAA Division I coaches who are current NSCAA College Services members may vote for their top choices Tuesday, Dec. 1 through Thursday, Dec. 10 within myNSCAA on NSCAA.com.  Soccer fans can also let their collective voice be heard by voting for their favorite player on the MAC Hermann Trophy website, starting Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Six finalists (three men, three women) will be named finalists on Friday, Dec. 11 during the 2015 NCAA Men’s College Cup in Cary, N.C.
