Van Winden Tabbed Top Freshman For Sixth Time To Highlight Awards
The women’s volleyball weekly honorees featured Adlee Van Winden of Cal Poly earning her sixth nod as the Freshman of the Week.
Barber Helps Beach Climb Back From 0-2 Hole
Helping Long Beach State stay in contention for a conference title, Long Beach State junior Nele Barber (Berlin, Germany/Marquette) came up big against fellow title candidate Cal Poly to capture Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades.
The 6-0 outside hitter spearheaded a 49er comeback from a two sets to none deficit, slamming 24 kills with 20 digs and seven blocks in a thrilling five-set win over the Mustangs on Saturday. Over the final three must-win sets, Barber took over the match with 18 kills, including nine in set four, and added 13 digs and six blocks.
Barber also had eight kills, nine digs and a block in Friday’s sweep of UC Santa Barbara.
The 24 kills and 20 digs versus Cal Poly represented new career-highs for Barber. It was her first career 20/20 performance and secured her 17th double-double of the season.
For the week, she averaged 4.00 kills, 3.63 digs and 1.00 blocks per set.

Van Winden Extends Record With Sixth Freshman Award
Cal Poly outside hitter Adlee Van Winden (Napa, Calif./Vintage HS) scooped up her sixth Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week award with two more stellar performances.
The top offensive threat for the Mustangs, Van Winden compiled 38 kills and 21 digs through two conference matches last week as the Mustangs posted a 1-1 record.
Van Winden drilled 17 kills on .268 hitting (17-6-41) to help Cal Poly sweep CSUN. She tied a season high with 21 kills in a five-set defeat at Long Beach State. Van Winden added 17 digs and three blocks versus the 49ers to secure her sixth double-double of the season.
She averaged 4.75 kills, 2.63 digs and 0.38 blocks per set as Cal Poly remained in the hunt for a Big West championship, settling in with a 15-5 overall record and a tie for second in the conference standings at 7-2.
Her 4.11 kills per set on the season is currently sixth-best in Cal Poly single-season history and ranks third among Big West attackers in 2015. Van Winden’s 300 kills is third-most among Big West players.

Tsujimoto Anchors Defense In Two Anteater Victories
UC Irvine sophomore Luna Tsujimoto (Irvine, Calif./Ohio State) notched Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors after averaging 5.57 digs per set in two road victories.
The 5-8 libero collected a career-high tying 26 digs in a four-set triumph over Cal State Fullerton. She dug 13 balls the next night in a sweep of UC Riverside.
Tsujimoto eclipsed the 20-dig mark for the fifth time this season. She leads the team and ranks fifth in the Big West in digs per game (3.89).
