Manu-Olevao, Petrachi Collect Women's Volleyball Honors

The women’s volleyball awards went to Hawai‘i senior Tai Manu-Olevao and UC Santa Barbara freshman Emilia Petrachi as both players helped their squads to 2-0 weeks.

Manu-Olevao Helps Hawai‘i Keep Rolling

Senior Tai Manu-Olevao (Hilo, Hawai‘i/Punahou School) led Hawai‘i offensively in a pair of wins to earn Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week accolades.

The 6-0 outside hitter totaled 27 kills in two matches as UH swept UC Davis and toppled UC Irvine in four sets.  The Rainbow Wahine improved to 18-1 overall, 8-0 in the Big West, and have now won 13 straight matches.

In the UC Davis match, Manu-Olevao was the lone UH player in double-digit kills as she finished with 12.  She hit at a .375 clip with just three errors in 24 swings.  Manu-Olevao added five digs and two assists.

Manu-Olevao recorded a season-high 19.5 points with a team-high 15 kills and a career-high seven blocks in the victory over the Anteaters.  Her two solo blocks also represented a career-high.  With 11 digs, Manu-Olevao secured her second double-double of the season.

For the week, she averaged 3.86 kills, 2.29 digs and 1.00 blocks per set.

Others nominated: Taylor Nelson (Cal Poly); Nele Barber (Long Beach State); Phoebe Grunt (UC Santa Barbara)

Petrachi Collects Dual Awards

Emilia Petrachi (Modena, Italy/Liceo Classico San Carlo) of UC Santa Barbara earned both the Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week awards with back-to-back impressive performances in four-set wins over UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.

Petrachi’s outstanding weekend included 43 digs (5.38 dos) and eight assists.  She anchored UCSB’s passing, which influenced the team’s .302 hitting percentage against the Titans.

The libero had 20 digs against the Highlanders and 23 scoops versus the Titans, and her defensive prowess helped limit the two foe to .065 and .104 attack percentages, respectively.

Petrachi’s has recorded 20 or more digs in three straight matches, and has surpassed the mark on five occasions this season.  Her 5.38 digs per set average this week eclipsed the current leading average in the conference.  In league contests only, Petrachi leads all Big West players with a 4.92 digs per set average.

Others nominated (Freshman): Adlee Van Winden (Cal Poly); Peyton Grahovac (Long Beach State); McKenna Granato (Hawai‘i)

Others nominated (Defensive): Nicole Kessler (Cal Poly); Megan Kruidhof (Long Beach State); Savanah Kahakai (Hawai‘i)
