Wilson, McKeown Earn Women's Soccer Honors For Second Time

10/12/2015

Rebecca Wilson recorded a hat trick and Ashton McKeown posted her eighth and ninth shutouts of the season, as both players garnered their second Player of the Week honor this season.

Wilson’s Goal Scoring Onslaught Includes Hat Trick

Recording Cal State Fullerton’s first hat trick since 2012, senior Rebecca Wilson (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado HS) also provided both game-winning goals for the Titans to capture her second Big West Women’s Soccer Player of the Week award this season.

Held mostly in check by a stingy UC Davis defense, Wilson broke through for the first of her two game-winning strikes in Friday’s 1-0 win.  Wilson latched onto Christina Burkenroad’s through ball in the 64th minute, guiding her shot under the diving Aggie goalkeeper for her league-leading 11th goal.  The two teams had just five shots apiece for the match, with Wilson taking two of CSF’s in front of a Titan Stadium record crowd of 1,617 fans.

Wilson exploded in Sunday’s 4-0 shutout of Hawai‘i as she had a foot in all four Titan scores, racking up three goals and an assist for the match.  She became just the seventh player in program history to tally seven points in a match.  The forward had markers in the 37th, 55th and 67th minutes to lift her goal total to 14, ranking her third all-time in Cal State Fullerton history.

Others nominated:
Megan Abutin (Cal Poly); Cynthia Sanchez (CSUN); Vania Robles (Long Beach State); Crystal Crump (UC Davis); Tyler Cunningham (UC Riverside)

McKeown Posts Clean Sheets In Pair Of 49er Wins

Long Beach State junior Ashton McKeown (Huntington Beach, Calif./Calvary Chapel HS) claimed her second Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award this season, notching her eighth and ninth shutouts with a pair of conference wins.

The goalkeeper anchored a stalwart 49er defense that has not allowed a goal in three Big West matches.  She made five saves apiece in road victories over Cal Poly (2-0) and UC Santa Barbara (1-0), as LBSU took hold of sole possession of first place in the conference standings and posted its first 3-0 league start since 2011.

In extending her shutout streak to 288:50 – with her last goal allowed coming against No. 6 BYU on Sept. 26 – McKeown handcuffed two of the Big West’s top offenses.  Her 10 saves came on 16 shots faced.

McKeown’s season totals include eight solo shutouts, an .877 save percentage and a league-best 0.48 goals against average.

Others nominated: Allie Begin (Cal Poly); Jennifer Stuart (Cal State Fullerton); Cynthia Tafoya (CSUN); Alexis Smith (UC Davis)
