CSUN, Long Beach State Secure Women's Volleyball Awards
CSUN and Long Beach State parlayed 2-0 conference starts into this week’s women’s volleyball awards.
Stinson Powers Matadors to Pair of Big West Wins
CSUN senior Cieana Stinson (Woodland Hills, Calif./Taft HS) captured Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week recognition after averaging 5.57 kills per set in leading her team to a 2-0 conference start.
Stinson was nearly unstoppable in victories over UC Irvine (3-0) and UC Davis (3-1). She hit a sizzling .423 with 39 kills and just six errors in 78 swings over the two contests.
The 5-11 outside hitter slammed 17 kills in 26 errorless attacks to lead the Matadors past the Anteaters. Stinson’s performance helped CSUN snap an eight-match skid.
Stinson then posted a team-high 22 kills on 52 swings (.308) to go along with four blocks (two solo) in the four-set victory over the Aggies. It was the ninth match of the year in which Stinson tallied double-digit kills.

Owens Named Top Freshman For First Time In Career
CSUN’s Aeryn Owens (Alta Loma, Calif./Alta Loma HS) played a key role in her team’s 2-0 league start to earn Big West Women’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week honors.
The 6-0 outside hitter averaged 4.14 kills per set as CSUN’s second-biggest offensive threat, helping the Matadors defeat UC Irvine and UC Davis on the opening weekend of Big West play.
Owens had 13 kills on a season-high .435 hitting against UCI, adding three digs and one block in the victory. She equalled her season high with 16 kills on 44 swings (.250) in the win over the Aggies.
For the week, Owens hit .313 (29-8-67).

Long Beach State’s Benson Force At The Net
Long Beach State senior Hayley Benson (Hilliard, Ohio/Ball State) earned Big West Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week award for her strong blocking in a pair of conference triumphs.
A 6-4 middle blocker, Benson recorded seven blocks (one solo) in each match as the 49ers topped UC Davis in three sets and UC Irvine in four.
Benson averaged 2.00 blocks per set and chipped in offensively with 16 kills on .379 hitting against the Anteaters. She committed just five errors in 29 attacks versus UCI.
