Jordan, Hoffmann Excel at UC Riverside Invitational

9/15/2015

A pair of top-three individual finishes at the UC Riverside Invitational determined the Big West Cross Country Athletes of the Week.

Jordan Places Third In Home Meet

UC Riverside senior Cody Jordan (Apple Valley, Calif./Granite Hills HS) established a personal-best time and finished third overall in the 35th annual UC Riverside Invitational, claiming Big West Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.

Jordan turned in a PR of 24:07.8 on the Agricultural Operations Course, 11 seconds faster than his previous best in the 8K.  He finished 21 seconds behind the winner, Central Arizona’s Gilbert Kigen, who won the event in 23:46.3.

Jordan outran every other Big West competitor, including participants from CSUN, Long Beach State, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara.  His performance helped the Highlanders finish ninth among 23 schools.

His time also makes him the third-best 8K performer in program history.

Others nominated: Swarnjit Boyal (Cal Poly)

Hoffmann’s Huge Effort Spurs Aggies To Runner-Up Finish

UC Davis senior Christine Hoffmann (San Luis Obispo, Calif./San Luis Obispo HS) earned Big West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors after placing third among 110 competitors at the 35th annual UC Riverside Invitational.

Hoffmann was second among Division I competitors in the 6K race, crossing the line in 20:40.1 and just 1.1 seconds behind Arkansas’s Devin Clark (20:39.0).

Hoffmann led a parade of Aggies to the finish line, as all five UC Davis representatives finished among the top 25 on the Agricultural Operations Course.  She guided UC Davis to a second-place team finish behind No. 9 Arkansas.

The effort was consistent with Hoffmann’s recent strong outings.  It was her seventh-straight top-25 finish, and her fifth top-10 finish in that span.

Others nominated: Ashley Windsor (Cal Poly)
