2015-16 ESPN/Big West Basketball Television Schedule
Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell today announced that ESPN networks will televise a minimum of 20 men’s basketball games for the 2015-16 season.
ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to air five Saturday regular season Big West contests, utilizing a “Wild Card” format to determine matchups 2-4 weeks before the game. The four ESPNU games are slotted for Jan. 9, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 20, while ESPN2 is home to a Feb. 27 contest.
Various ESPN platforms will showcase the Big West Tournament semifinals and championship at Honda Center. The Friday, Mar. 11 semifinals will be shown live on ESPN3 and ESPNU at 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. (PT), respectively. ESPNU will also air the first semifinal on a tape delay at 11:00 p.m. (PT). The championship game will tip on ESPN2 Saturday, Mar. 12 at 8:30 p.m. (PT).
Twelve additional non-conference telecasts will appear on ESPN networks. For the eighth straight year, Hawai‘i will play in ESPN’s annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, over 24 hours of competition highlighting top coast-to-coast battles in a celebration to the start of college basketball season. The Rainbow Warriors host Nevada on Monday, Nov. 16 at 11:00 p.m. (HT) on ESPN2. Long Beach State also will participate in the Marathon, hosting BYU for a 10:45 p.m. (PT) tip.
Three conference schools will compete in a series of ESPN Events’ owned-and-operated eight-team early-season tournaments for a total of nine more television games. Long Beach State (Gildan Charleston Classic), UC Irvine (Wooden Legacy) and Hawai‘i (Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic) each will play three games over a four-day period. The Wooden Legacy will be contested at two sites, with the first two days at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Gym. Honda Center will host four games, including the championship, on the final day of competition. Games from all three tournaments will be featured on ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3.
Additionally, the TV slate also includes ESPNU airing a UC Irvine at Kansas matchup on Dec. 29.
“The Big West’s presence across ESPN’s platform continues to increase year over year,” said Farrell. “The conference will receive solid exposure from the very beginning of the season with the Tip-Off marathon, culminating with our signature event the Big West Tournament at Honda Center. We are looking forward to another quality season of Big West basketball on ESPN.”
