UC Davis senior Raquel Lambdin advanced to the finals of the 1,500-meters to highlight the first two days of competition for Big West athletes at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field.

Making her second straight appearance at nationals, Lambdin finished sixth in her heat in a time of 4 minutes, 17.88 seconds.  The top five finishers in each of two heats automatically advanced to the finals, and Lambdin missed the fifth spot in heat one by one-tenth of a second.  Elise Cranny of Stanford grabbed that spot in a time of 4:17.87.

However, individuals with the next two fastest times overall also qualified for the finals, with Lambdin notching the first of those two slots.  Her performance was the second-fastest of her career, trailing only the school-record 4:17.09 she clocked at the Big West Championships.

The 1,500 national final will take place at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Two more Big West athletes are set to compete over the final two days of the national meet.  Long Beach State junior Willie Alexander, appearing in his third consecutive NCAA Championships, competes in the triple jump Friday at 4:30 p.m.  Cal Poly junior Danielle Bryan will take her turn in the high jump at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
