The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships competition and 90 student-athletes will represent the Big West Conference.
This year’s NCAA West Region Championships takes place at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas, Austin on May 28-30.
Long Beach State leads the conference with 17 regional selections as the 49er men, who recently won their third-straight Big West title, are sending 13 athletes and the women’s team is sending four. UC Riverside and CSUN are next with 15 participants eachand is followed by UC Davis with 14 athletes headed to the regional.
UC Santa Barbara will be represented by 10 athletes and Cal Poly will showcase seven athletes. Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine have five student-athletes apiece and Hawai’i rounds out the conference with two representatives.
The highest male qualifiers are UC Irvine’s Lloyd Sicard who sports the 13th-fastest 110m hurdles time at 13.78 and Long Beach State’s Michael Montgomery who owns the ninth-best mark of 5.41meters in the pole vault.
On the women’s side, UC Davis’ Raquel Lambdin holds the fourth fastest time of 4:17.09 in the 1500 meter run and teammate Ashley Marshall enters the regional with the sixth fastest time in the 100 meters and the ninth fastest mark in the 200 meters. In the field events, UC Riverside’s Danielle Littleton is the top conference qualifier, owning the 13th-highest mark in the long jump at 6.22 meters.
The qualifiers out of the west region and east region, which is being held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
