Aggies Advance To NCAA Championship

The UC Davis Aggies are headed to their fourth NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships after carding a three-day score of 884 to finish third on the Warren Golf Course at the South Bend Regional. The Aggies also advanced to the championships in 2008, 2011 and 2013.

UC Davis make their 4th NCAA Championship field after their 7th NCAA Regional appearance.Duke won the team title after firing a three-round score of 873, beating second place Wake Forest by three strokes.  Arizona followed the Aggies in fourth place with a total of 886 while Tulane and Purdue registered 888 to tie for fifth. 

The top six teams and three individuals of each regional advance to the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships, which is scheduled for May 22-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., with the University of South Florida serving as host.

Closing out the regional with an even-par 72, Blair Lewis led the Aggies and tied for fifth on the leaderboard with a three-round score of 1-over 217.  Paige Lee tied for 14th after tallying 220 while Andrea Wong is knotted in 21st place with a 222 point total.  Bev Vatananugulkit landed in a tie for the 41st spot with 227 and Betty Chen rounded out the five-person team with a score of 234.

Also competing at the South Bend Regional as an individual was Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg.  The sophomore from Glumslov, Sweden,  finished her first-ever regional tied for 56th after posting 230.  The All-Big West First Teamer is the first Titans golfer to ever be selected to the regionals since the women’s golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season.

Long Beach State’s Kassidy Teare and UC Riverside’s Savannah Vilaubi represented the Big West Conference playing as individuals at the St. George Regional.  Vilaubi closed out the regional with her best performance, firing one-over 73 for a three-round score of 228 to tie for 35th, while Teare was one stroke back in 42nd after carding 76 in the final round.

This marked the first time a women’s golfer has competed in regionals in UC Riverside history, while Teare became just the second women’s golfer from LBSU to qualify as an individual.
