UC Davis bested its first round performance by one stroke on day two of the NCAA Women’s Golf South Bend Regional at the Warren Golf Course for a two-round score of 589 (295-294) to sit fifth on the leaderboard.  The top six teams following three rounds of play advance to the NCAA Division I women’s Golf Championships.

Duke remains the leader of the 18-team field with a one-over 577, while Purdue shot up from seventh to second after firing a tournament-low 283 on day two for a total of 582.  Wake Forest dropped to third with 585 with Arizona one stroke back at 586.

Paige Lee paces the Aggies with an even-par 144 while teammate Blair Lewis is one stroke back tied for 10th.  Andrea Wong shot her second straight round of 74 and is currently tied for 23rd and Bev Vatananugulkit bettered her first-round score by four stokes to move up 12 spots to tie for 58th with a total of 154. Betty Chen rounds out the five-person team tied for 77th after finishing with 157.

Also competing at the South Bend Regional as an individual is Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg.  The sophomore from Glumslov, Sweden, concluded the second round of the regional tied for 58th after firing three-over 75 on day two for a two-day total of 154.  Edberg is the first Titans golfer to ever be selected to the regionals since the women’s golf program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season.

UC Davis, making its sixth straight NCAA Regional appearance, tees off the third round beginning at 5:54 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday and will play with Arizona and Tulane, while Edberg begins round three at 5:45 a.m.

Long Beach State’s Kassidy Teare and UC Riverside’s Savannah Vilaubi are competing in the St. George Regional as individuals.  After two rounds of play, Teare is tied for 29th with a two-day total of 153 while Vilaubi remains two strokes back tied for 42nd after shooting 155.

This marks the first time a women’s golfer has competed in regionals in UC Riverside history, while Teare is only the second women’s golfer from LBSU to qualify as an individual.  The duo resume action on the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club Friday at 7:45 a.m. (PDT).

Four regional tournaments are binge conducted May 7-9 to determine the championships field.  A total of 384 participants were selected for regional competition. Of these players, 132 will advance to the championships finals. Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional. The six-day NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships is scheduled for May 22-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, with the University of South Florida serving as host.
