School Records Fall Among Track And Field Weekly Winners

4/21/2015

A couple of school records went by the wayside to highlight the announcement of the Big West Track and Field Athlete of the Week awards.

UC Irvine sophomore Lloyd Sicard (Gardena, Calif./Serra HS) ran the fastest 110-meter hurdles time in school history to secure Big West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors.  The mark was the fastest under all conditions as he finished in 13.78 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday.  Sicard ranks No. 1 in the Big West, sixth in the West Region and 13th nationally with his effort.

UC Davis senior Raquel Lambdin (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo HS) bested her previous career top mark in the 800-meters to notch Big West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week accolades.  She won the open section of the 800 at the Mt. SAC Relays in a time of 2:04.96.  It was the second year in a row that she won the event at Mt. SAC.  Lambdin’s time eclipsed her previous PR of 2:06.47 (set at the 2014 Mt. SAC Relays) and solidified her spot at No. 2 on the Aggie career leaders list.  Lambdin’s time ranks No. 1 in the Big West, No. 8 in the West Region and No. 11 in the NCAA.

A senior from Long Beach State, Victor Martin (Hawthorne, Calif./El Camino College) captured Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors as he continued to improve upon his personal-best in the shot put.  Martin’s toss of 59-06.25 at the Beach Invitational represented a two-feet improvement over the last two weeks, and more than 10 inches better than the 58-08.00 mark he established last week.  Martin now sits at No. 5 in LBSU history in the event, and he owns the No. 1 performance in the Big West.  He placed second out of 55 competitors.  Martin also threw 170-09 in the discus to finish 12th out of 73 competitors at the same meet.

UC Riverside senior Danielle Littleton (Oceanside, Calif./Vista HS) set the school record in the high jump with her performance at the Mt. SAC Relays.  The high flier turned in a leap of 20-05.00 (6.22m) to finish 3rd overall, and first among collegians.  Littleton supplanted Lauren Reid from the top perch as the previous record holder  cleared 20-04.25 back in 2010.  Littleton is the Big West leader in the high jump by more than half a foot this season, and her performance was good for the 20th-best mark in the nation.
