UC Irvine senior Jillian Yocum (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS) notched her second Big West Women’s Water Polo Player of the Week award this season as she collected 10 saves in back-to-back matches against top-tier competition.
The goalkeeper had her first 10 save effort in a 7-6 win against No. 6 Hawai‘i. Yocum made a clutch save on a penalty shot in the second period, and stopped four shots in the fourth period, including the game-saves in a 1-on-1 situation with 13 seconds remaining.
Yocum tallied another 10 saves in UCI’s 6-5 loss to No. 11 UC Davis, halting the Anteater eight-game winning streak. However, Yocum was still a stalwart in goal with 10 stops, including seven that came in the first half. She also recorded a steal in each match.
Entering the regular season finale, Yocum is three saves away from her third 200-save season.
Others nominated: Kelcy Barott (CSUN); Alexandra Massier (Long Beach State); Elsie Fullerton (UC Davis); Mackenzie Brokaw (UC Santa Barbara)
