UC Davis senior Corey Hawkins, the Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and a first-team all-district selection, added to his growing list of accolades as Monday he landed on the Associated Press All-American Team as a honorable mention choice.

He is the first Aggie to be recognized as an All-American by the organization.  The 6-3 guard averaged 20.9 points per game to lead the Big West in scoring for the second time during his three-years in Davis.  In addition, he was the NCAA three-point champion for three-point field goal percentage, connecting at a gaudy .488 (81-of-166) clip.

Hawkins helped the Aggies tie the greatest turnaround in Big West history, a +16 improvement in the win column, as they finished 25-7 overall and as conference regular season champions (14-2) for the first time in Division I program history.  UC Davis set D-I program records for total wins, home wins (14), conference wins and road victories (10).  In addition, the team’s 14-0 record at The Pavilion represented the first unblemished home slate by a Big West team since Long Beach State in 2011-12.

The native of Goodyear, Ariz., a two-time all-conference first team choice and recently a first team All-District 9 selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, led the Big West with 16 games of 20 points or more and three games with 30 or more.  He lit up Stanford with a season-high 34 points in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament to highlight the Aggies’ first-ever Division I postseason appearance.

Hawkins also finished No. 9 in the Big West single-season record book for three-point field goal percentage.

A finalist for the Lou Henson Award, he is in contention to receive the honor as the top Division I mid-major player in the country.
