UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara To Appear In Postseason Tournaments

Postseason play for UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara is on tap as the Aggies travel to Stanford for the National Invitation Tournament and the Gauchos head off to Oral Roberts in the College Basketball Invitational.

As Big West regular season champions, owners of a 25-6 record and the nation’s best win differential (+16), the Aggies are making their first Division I npostseason appearance.  UC Davis, a No. 7 seed, will play the second-seeded Cardinal at Maples Pavilion Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN2.

UC Davis is led by Big West Player of the Year and two-time league scoring champion Corey Hawkins.  The Aggies secured an automatic bid to the NIT by virtue of winning the Big West regular season title but not the conference tournament.  UC Davis lost in the tournament semifinals to Hawai‘i.

The Gauchos accepted an invitational to play in the 16-team CBI, which marks the program’s 12th postseason appearance since the 1987-88 season.  UCSB has gone to five NCAA Tournaments, five National Invitation Tournaments, and two College Basketball Invitationals.  Entering with a record of 19-13 overall, UCSB meets the Golden Eagles for a 5:00 p.m. (PDT) game on Wednesday.

UCSB, which lost in the Big West Tournament semifinals to eventual champion UC Irvine, has won eight of its last 10 games.  The Gauchos are led by senior Alan Williams, who is tied for No. 2 in Big West career history with 1,115 rebounds.
