Iwasa Named NSCAA All-American
UC Irvine senior Cameron Iwasa became the sixth player in program history to be named an All-American, as the forward landed on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America second team.
Iwasa, also one of 16 semifinalists up for the most prestigious award in college soccer, the MAC Hermann Trophy, is the third Anteater All-American in the last two seasons. He joined 2013 honorees Marco Franco and Enrique Cardenas, Miguel Ibarra (2011), Irving Garcia (2009) and Brad Evans (2006) as UCI All-American representatives.
The Sacramento, Calif. native tied for the team lead with 18 points on six goals and six assists. His assist total tied for the Big West lead, and he also topped the conference in total shots (81).
Iwasa tied UCI’s all-time matches played mark in the third round of the NCAA Tournament against Providence, finishing with 85 appearances alongside former standout Amani Walker. He finished his career No. 3 in the Big West record book with 235 shots taken. Iwasa was a catalyst during UCI’s postseason run, producing four goals and an assist in six contests.
In addition to his All-American nod, Iwasa earned NSCAA First Team All-West Region honors and All-Big West Second Team accolades. He also garnered an invite to the annual MLS Player Combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. from Jan. 8-13.
