Three Cross Country Athletes Gain At-Large Entry into NCAA Championships
The Big West will have three representatives at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships as two men and one woman earned at-large berths.
Cal Poly's Chris Frias and Long Beach State's Chris Enriquez earned at-large berths thanks to top 25 finishes in the men's West Region race. Frias was the highest Big West finisher with a ninth place showing at 29:55 over the 10K course. Enriquez was right behind Frias in 10th in 29:55.
Hollander was the lone women's at-large qualifier after wrapping up the 6K women's West Regional in 19:37, good for seventh in the talented field. From the teams not selected in the regular qualification process, the top four finishers at each regional are automatically selected (but they must have finished within the top 25 of the region). Additionally, two more at-large runners will be chosen from the remainder of the national pool (they also must have finished in the regional top 25).
Frias, Enriquez and Hollander will now head to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Championships. Indiana State will host the championships on Nov. 23, at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center. The mens race will begin at noon ET, followed by the womens race at approximately 1:15 p.m.
