Seniors Chris Eversley of Cal Poly and Kyle Boswell of UC Santa Barbara were selected among 30 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Wednesday.

The 30 finalists were selected from a nationwide pool of more than 100 candidates.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a senior on an NCAA Division I Team.  CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, and honors notable achievements in four  areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.  The award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Eversley earned All-Big West First Team accolades in 2012-13 after ranking ninth in scoring (15.4 ppg) and sixth in rebounding (7.0 rpg).  A recreation, parks and tourism administration major, he enters his senior campaign needing just 266 points to become the 19th player in Mustang history to accumulate 1,000 for his career.

Boswell received the Big West Best Sixth Man Award last season as one of the top three-point shooting threats in the conference.  He canned 78 threes, the third-most in school history.  His .419 three-point shooting percentage also ranked him fifth among Big West sharpshooters.  As a junior, Boswell also averaged 13.0 points per game to place 15th in the Big West.  The mechanical engineering major was UCSB’s Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012-13.  Boswell is the second Gaucho award nominee in the last three years, joining former teammate Orlando Johnson who appeared on the ballot during the 2011-12 season.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot.  The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Men’s Final Four®.
