UC Irvine Sweeps Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors
Sophomore Riley Martin (Folsom, Calif./Vista del Lago HS) and junior Kaycee Holcomb (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park HS) turned in top-five finishes for UC Irvine at the Mustang Challenge Division I Invite, claiming Big West Men's and Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week accolades.
Martin clocked a 24:56.20 over 8,000-meters to capture second place at the Central Park course in Santa Clarita. Martin finished second only to UCLA's Sergey Sushchickh, who won with a time of 24:50.11. The Folsom, Calif. native helped the Anteaters claim a third place team finish. It was Martin's second Athlete of the Week honor this season.
Holcomb also secured her second Athlete of the Week honor for 2013. She finished fifth with a time of 18:07.20 on the 5,000-meter course to lead all Anteaters. Holcomb helped the Anteaters to a third-place team finish behind only champion UCLA and runner-up Loyola Marymount.
