UC Santa Barbara Duo Sweeps Cross Country Honors
Sophomore Anthony Ortolan and junior Daniella Moreno produced a clean sweep of the Big West Men's and Women's Athlete of the Week awards as their performances helped UC Santa Barbara capture the team titles at the Riverside Invitational.
Ortolan Places Fourth at Riverside Invitational
Anthony Ortolan (Pleasant Hill, Calif./College Park HS) claimed Big West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors as the junior was UC Santa Barbara's top finisher in the 8,000-meter race at the Riverside Invitational. He ran a 24:24.8 to finish in fourth place, ahead of teammate Bryce Rausa, who recorded a 24:35.8 for fifth.
The performance aided the Gauchos in their pursuit of the team title, which they achieved with a score of 54 points, edging second place Southern Utah's 79.
The team win was UC Santa Barbara's second straight in the Riverside Invitational.

Moreno Earns Medalist Honors at Riverside Invitational
Dani Moreno (Downey, Calif./Warren HS) won the individual title and helped the UC Santa Barbara atop the team victory stand at the Riverside Invitational, collecting Big West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
Moreno's first-place time of 20:23.5 paced the Gauchos to a team score of 31, which beat out Nike Team LA's 51 and host UC Riverside's 81. Moreno outdistanced Gaucho teammate Christine Cooperstein, who placed second in 20:47.6.
The junior eclipsed her previous Riverside Invitational best time of 20:44.2 in the 6K, set in 2012.
