Two Big West athletes garnered second-team All-American honors to supplement their performances at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the University of Oregon's Historic Hayward Field Thursday.

UC Davis sophomore Katie Fry competed in the semifinals of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and turned in a 10:11.98, finishing eighth in her heat and 14th overall.  The time represented the second-fastest in her career behind the 9:58.97 she achieved at the NCAA West Region Prelim Meet at Texas two weeks ago.

Fry needed to finish in the top five of her heat or have one of the next two fastest times from either semifinal to advance to Saturday's finals.  But the native of Lemon Cove, Calif., in her first season racing the steeplechase, stayed near the front in the early part of the race before the lead runners built a lead Fry could not overcome.

UC Riverside junior Ted Hooper joined Fry with second-team All-American distinction as he claimed 13th place overall in the long jump.  The Arcadia native posted a mark of 24-11.25.

Long Beach State freshman Willie Alexander, who competed alongside Hooper in flight two of the long jump, came in 19th place with a top mark of 24-4.5.  He was one of just four freshmen in a field of 24 vying for the national title in Oregon.

Carl Horsley took the track for the second of his two races at the NCAA Championships.  Horsley, who broke his own two-week old school record in the 100-meters with a semifinal time of 10.22, captured second-team All-American honors Wednesday.

The Cal State Northridge junior returned to competition Thursday looking to reach the finals in the 200-meters.  Although he did not accomplish that goal, finishing seventh in his heat and 20th overall in 20.78, he wrapped up a superb season that included two school records, the conference's Male Track Athlete of the Year award and two All-American citations.  Horsley also received Honorable Mention All-America accolades for his efforts in the 200.

UC Riverside senior Damajeria Dubose also was in action in the 1,500-meters.  Running in the second of two heats, Dubose clocked 4:24.30 to finish eighth in her heat and 20th overall.  Dubose needed to be in the top five of her heat or own one of the two next fastest times to advance to the finals, and looked to be in position to do so, but with 500 meters to go a logjam of runners impeded her progress and shaved valuable seconds off her time.

Alexander and Dubose joined Horsley on the list of Honorable Mention All-America recipients Thursday.

Day three of action at the national meet in Eugene, Ore., features two Big West athletes in search of championships.  Hawai'i senior Amanda Alvarez competes in the women's triple jump at 3:25 p.m.  Later that afternoon, UC Davis senior Lauren Wallace vies for a national title in the women's 800-meters as she races against seven others in the finals at 5:20 p.m.
