The 2013 Big West Sportsmanship Team Awards were announced today for the conference’s nine spring sports as multiple winners were represented within the Cal Poly and Hawai’i athletics programs.
Cal Poly earned the sportsmanship award in women’s golf, softball, and men’s and women’s track and field. The softball team collected the honor for the third straight year.
In its return to the Big West, Hawai’i had two squads recognized for excellence in sportsmanship with women’s water polo and men’s tennis receiving the honor.
Repeat winners also included the Long Beach State men’s golf and UC Riverside women’s tennis teams. The 49ers captured the award for the third year in a row, while the Highlanders were honored for their second straight.
Pacific claimed the honor in baseball to round out the list of honorees.
The Sportsmanship Award is voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the Big West’s 16 championship sports. Each participating student-athlete selects the school that demonstrates excellent conduct in competition and is most deserving of the award.
Winning teams are honored with commemorative t-shirts.
