Hawaii pitcher Kaia Parnaby punctuated a stellar collegiate career with her selection as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Third Team All-American.
The senior southpaw became the 11th Rainbow Wahine to earn All-American honors, and she is the first Big West player to earn such praise from the NFCA since 2009.
Parnaby produced one of the most dominant seasons in Big West history. She broke two long-standing single-season records. With 39 wins, she trumped the old mark of 35 set by Cal Poly Pomona's Rhonda Wheatley in 1987. In addition, Parnaby collected 342 strikeouts to unseat former UH standout Brooke Wilkins from the top spot in both Big West and school history. Wilkins, who mentored Parnaby in their native Australia, fanned 325 batters in 1994.
Parnaby also stamped her name in the record book in two other places, finishing No. 4 in innings pitched (312.2) and tied for No. 2 in appearances (50).
A native of Bilgola Plateau, NSW, Australia, Parnaby posted a 39-7 record and a league-best 1.52 ERA. She tossed 39 complete games and racked up 13 shutouts while holding opposing hitters to a .202 average.
Parnaby also ranks among the nation's leaders in several categories. She is No. 2 in wins, No. 5 in shutouts and strikeouts and No. 22 in walks per seven innings (1.14).
The 2013 Big West Pitcher of the Year led UH to the Big West regular season championship and a 45-win season, the highest win total by a conference member since Long Beach State's 51 in 2004. Parnaby captured five Big West Pitcher of the Week awards this season, making her one of only six players in league history to do so.
