Nine Big West Recipients On NSCAA Women's Soccer All-West Region Team

The 2012 NCAA Women’s Division I All-West Region was announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association naming nine Big West players as top performers this season.

Five of the nine recipients are receiving the All-West Region recognition for the second time in their careers playing for the Big West. The conference has five different programs highlighted on the list, accompanied by recipients from the West Coast Conference and Western Athletic Conference.

The first-teamers are led by dynamic seniors from Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State. Northridge won their first Big West title with Jacobo protecting the net, garnering herself top three in the nation for save percentage (.891). Jacobo was awarded Big West Goalie of the Year for her second-consecutive season and received first-team All-Big West honors. This is the first season in program history that the Matadors have had three recipients on the All-West Region teams.

Link is awarded her second-consecutive All-West Region first-team recognition after receiving third-team All-American acknowledgment last week. She led the conference in points and assists, helping her team to their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The record setting senior has won national honors in both her junior and senior season, as well as Big West postseason awards for three years straight.

All-West second team honorees included two-time recipient Alex Balcer of Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton’s Stacey Fox and Cal State Northridge’s Melissa Fernandez. Fox received third team recognition in the 2011 season. Closing out the lineup was four third-team recipients, Chloe McDaniels (Cal State Northridge), Rachel Wood (UC Irvine), Natalia Ledezma (UC Irvine) and Cici Kobinski (Cal Poly). Kobinski also received third team acclaim in 2011.
