This Week in the Big West - May 21-27, 2012

It all comes down to the final weekend in the chase for the Big West baseball crown as archrivals Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State will play a final series with the winner claiming the 2012 title. Meanwhile, men's and women's tennis individual and doubles teams head to the NCAA Championships and track & field athletes begin their NCAA Champioships quest with regional competition.

Baseball

It all comes down to a best two of three between archivals Cal State Fullerton (15-7 Big West) and Long Beach State (14-8) at Blair Field Friday through Sunday. The series winner will claim the 2012 Big West crown and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Once again, select home contests will be broadcast by institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.

Tennis

The NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships will open on Wednesday, May 23 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, with three Big West athletes representing the conference and their institutions.

Big West Men's Player of the Year Andre Dome of Cal Poly will compete as an individual and also pair with with teammate Matt Fawcett in doubles. Meanwhile, Big West Women's Player of the Year Anais Dallara will represent Long Beach State in women's singles.

Track & Field

Big West athletes will head to Austin, Texas for the NCAA West Regional May 24-26 as they begin their quest for individual NCAA titles. The conference will be represented in large numbers with 81 of the league’s top track and field qualifiers set to compete. All eight Big West track and field clubs will be represented in the competition. Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara lead the way as each school is represented in a total of 17 events.
