Play ball! Opening Day of the 2012 Big West baseball season is set for Friday, on the heels of softball openers last week. As spring sports begin, the men's and women's basketball seasons edge closer to the 2012 Big West Basketball Tournament at Honda Center.
Baseball
The 2012 Big West baseball season gets underway Friday, Feb. 17 with UC Irvine picking up the honors of playing the first contest of the new year. The Anteaters battle Alabama State at noon as part of the Urban Invitational in Houston, Texas.
In addition, the first BigWest.TV baseball broadcasts of the year will be this weekend, as Cal Poly airs their three-game set against Oklahoma State. As a bonus for fans, the entire series will air FREE OF CHARGE.
Once again, select home contests will be broadcast by institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.

Men's Basketball
Long Beach State travels to Creighton for a SEARS BracketBusters showdown this Saturday on ESPN2. The 49ers carry a 12-game win streak into the matchup and a successful outcome would give the program its second consecutive 20-win season.
In addition, two-time defending Big West Tournament champs UC Santa Barbara will have their game at Utah State aired on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court.
For the seventh year, all home and conference games, with the exception of ESPN and FOX Sports contests, will be broadcast by the institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.

Women's Basketball
The race to the Big West title is beginning to sort itself out, but every game remains critical. Conference leader Cal State Northridge (8-3) host a pair of big games, facing third-place teams Pacific (7-4) and UC Davis (7-4) this week. Second-place Cal Poly (7-3) is on the road, first at UC Irvine (7-5) and then UC Riverside (3-9).

Tough home games are on tap to open the week, as UC Davis hosts No. 12/8 Stanford and Cal State Fullerton welcomes No. 8/12 UCLA on Wednesday. The conference then hits the road for more tournament action from San Diego to Las Vegas.

While the men have a light week of activity, the Big West women's tennis squads prepare for battle against a slew of nationally ranked non-conference opponents. UC Davis and UC Irvine test their mettle against two ranked squads apiece.

Women's Water Polo
A smattering of women's water polo games dot the schedule this week. Pacific competes in the majority of those games as a participant in the Lancer Invite. Meanwhile, UC Irvine remains the national top 10 for the fourth straight week.
