The fifth annual Big West Coin Drive returns to the nine conference campuses throughout the month of February as each school’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) collects coins and donates the funds to charity.
   
Each school’s SAAC will set up a location on each campus to collect coins for a designated charity from February 1-29.  Each school will donate three-quarters of its collection to its charity and the other 25 percent to the winning institution’s charity.  Pacific raised the most funds during the 2010 drive, while Cal Poly (2010), Pacific (2009) and UC Davis (2008) were the previous year’s winners.  The nine Big West schools raised nearly $11,000 in 2011.
   
This year, the Big West SAAC has set a goal of $15,000 total.
   
The institutions have chosen the following charities for this year’s Coin Drive: Cal Poly (NEGU Foundation); Cal State Fullerton (Orangewood Children’s Foundation); Cal State Northridge (Valley Trauma Center); Long Beach State (Read Across America, California Teach Association); UC Davis (Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center); UC Irvine (Heart Institute, Children’s Hospital of Orange County); UC Riverside (Highland Elementary); UC Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara Street Medicine); and Pacific (St. Joseph’s Medical Foundation, Breast Health Services).
