Northridge Outlasts West Virginia to Claim Thanksgiving Classic Championship
Sophomore Kaitlyn Petersen led the Matadors with 17 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, as the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (4-2) defeated the West Virginia Mountaineers (3-2) 48-47 in the championship game of the Holiday Inn Woodland Hills Thanksgiving Basketball Classic 2011.
Junior Kendall Rodriguez scored a career-best 24 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Christina Thompson added 18 points as the Pacific women's basketball team pulled away from Southern Illinois Edwardsville, 78-68, Saturday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Burns Hits For 22 In Women's Hoop Win Over Austin Peay
Senior Ashlee Burns tied her career-high with 22 points in leading the Cal Poly women's basketball team to a 79-69 win over Austin Peay on Saturday in Mott Gym. With the win Cal Poly improves 2-2 while Austin Peay falls to 2-3 on the year.
Jasmin Shuler scored a team-high 17 points and the Tennessee State defense held Cal State Fullerton to just 28 percent shooting from the field for the game Saturday afternoon, helping lift the Tigers to a 61-48 win over the Titans in the consolation of the Hoops for the Cure Tournament in front of 589 fans at Moody Coliseum in Dallas.
