It's the beginning of the downhill race to the end of the fall sports seasons.  Cross country teams get in one final run before the Big West Cross Country Championships on October 29, just two weeks remain the women's soccer regular season and just three weeks remain in the men's soccer regular season.  Meanwhile, women's volleyball has hit the halfway point with the preseason favorite in the lead.

Cross Country

Seven of the nine Big West Conference schools are squeezing in one last cross country meet - The Titan Invitational - before the Big West Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29. The 2011 Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational is slated for Friday, Oct. 21 with the women's 5K kicking off the event at 5:00 p.m. The me's 8K follows at 5:30 p.m. This year's course loops around the grass recreation fields and the concrete/asphalt pathways around the Sports Complex. Azusa Pacific won both the mens and womens titles last year.

No. 7 UC Irvine sits in the driver's seat, despite a setback last week at No. 4 Creighton.  The 'Eaters return to their friendly field at Anteater Stadium, where they are 5-1 this season, to host 2nd-place UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton.  Meanwhile, Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge, also tied for 2nd in conference play, hit the road.

For the seventh year, select games will be broadcast by the institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.

Women's Volleyball

Another week, another Big West member in first place in the Big West Conference standings. In the first four weeks of league play, four different teams have owned the coveted number one spot. UC Davis and defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton opened the conference portion of their schedules with a 2-0 mark to tie for first. The following week the Titans found themselves knotted for first with UC Santa Barbara, but fell out of the top spot shortly after to give the Gauchos the throne. With four weeks of Big West play in the record book, preseason favorite Long Beach State is currently top dog in the Big West with a 6-2 mark.

The 49ers' sole possession of first place could potentially be short-lived with their challenging week ahead. This weekend Long Beach State travels to the central coast to battle Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, two teams that are currently tied for second place, along with Cal State Fullerton, with a 4-3 record. The Mustangs and Gauchos also entertain the Titans.

For the seventh year, all conference matches will be broadcast by the institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.
