This week in the Big West sees the beginning of women's volleyball conference play as well as the final weeks of men's and women's non-conference action. The cross country slate is filled with big runs both in and out of California.
Cross Country
Two meets are on tap this Saturday in divergent parts of the country. Cal Poly will split their squads, travelling to the Midwest to take part in the Roy Griak Invitational, while also participating in the Stanford Invitational. Long Beach State will join the Mustangs in Minnesota, while NorCal squads Pacific and UC Davis will also be in Palo Alto.
Cross Country Weekly Release #4
Men's Soccer
Teams will get in some final non-conference contests before opening up the 2011 Big West portion of their schedules next week. With the exception of UC Riverside, all the Big West teams are home this weekend, including UC Davis who are unbeaten on their turf this season. The Aggies face Causeway Cup rival Sacramento State on Friday.
Top teams No. 5 UC Irvine (7-1) and Cal State Fullerton (5-1-1) will play single games at home this week, as will Cal Poly. No. 6 UC Santa Barbara will host both San Diego on Friday and Sacramento State on Sunday, and Cal State Northridge will also play two at home - versus SMU Friday and Seattle Sunday.
For the seventh year, select games will be broadcast by the institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.

Women's Soccer
A week remains before the start of conference play, with teams fitting in their final non-conference contests of the year. No. 15 UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge will host the highest-profile opponent of the week, with perennial NCAA title contenders Portland visiting. The 'Eaters will square off with Portland Thursday, while the Matadors get their shot Sunday.
Home contests this week include Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton hosting UNLV on Friday and Sunday, respectively, Pacific facing San Jose State Friday, and UC Riverside welcoming Lamar Sunday. Cal State Fullerton will air their match against UNLV on BigWest.TV Sunday.

Women's Volleyball
This week marks the start of Big West Conference play. League-leading UC Davis, who currently sits atop the standings with a 14-1 mark, has the honor of kicking off the conference portion of the season as it visits northern California foe Pacific on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
The remaining seven Big West teams take to the court this weekend. Defending champion Cal State Fullerton and preseason favorite Long Beach State host central coast opponents Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. Irvine tackles the NorCal schools and Cal State Northridge and UC Riverside battle in the Inland Empire Saturday night.
