This Week in the Big West - August 22-28, 2011
The 2011-12 fall sports season adds men's soccer and women's volleyball to the mix starting Friday, with women's soccer looking to continue their solid start into Week 2.
The 2011 season kicks off Friday with four matches total, three at home. Cal State Fullerton will open the season at 5:00 pm PT before defending Big West regular-season champions No. 24 UC Irvine welcome San Diego and Cal State Northridge square off against Canisius, both set for 7:00 pm kick-offs. UC Riverside plays the fourth game of the day, opening on the road at Cal State Bakersfield.
Big West Tournament champs No. 14 UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly will wait until Saturday to get started. The Big West preseason favorites meet Seattle and UNLV, respectively. UC Davis also begins their 2011 campaign Saturday, on the road at Saint Mary's.
Cal State Fullerton will host Hope International in the first match of a doubleheader with the Titan women Friday night, with both games airing FREE OF CHARGE on BigWest.TV. Men's Soccer Weekly Release #1
After a successful start to the season last weekend that including wins over two Top 25 teams, the Big West looks to carry the momentum into Week 2. Two more Top 25 teams are on the schedule for this week, with Long Beach State facing No. 12 Marquette Sunday at the Milwaukee Cup and the Blue-Green duo of UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly hosting No. 16 Santa Clara on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
No. 13 UC Irvine travels to the UC Riverside Tournament where they will team up with the Highlanders to face off against San Jose State and Mississippi State. In addition, UC Davis will host their second home match of the year on Sunday when they meet Sacramento State.

Women's Soccer Weekly Release #2
All nine Big West Conference teams are scheduled for tournament play to open the 2011 season. The Pacific TIgers have the honor of playing the first match of the year with a 10:00 a.m. start time on Friday, Aug. 26 at the Southern Utah Invitational. In a challenging first weekend of play, the Big West will face a total of five Top 25 opponents.
Preseason favorite No. 22 Long Beach State will open the year at home, hosting the LBSU Mizuno Invitational. The 49ers will broadcast all of their matches this weekend on BigWest.TV - Friday against Prairie View A&M (11:00 am PT) and UM-Baltimore County (7:00 pm) as well as Saturday's match against No. 7 Washington (7:00 pm). All will be FREE OF CHARGE as a special for fans.
