Women's Basketball

UC Davis is headed to Palo Alto, Calif., as the No. 16 seed in the Spokane Regional in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, as announced by the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Selection Committee.

The Aggies, who participated in the WNIT in 2008 and 2010, are making their first appearance in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Aggies are set to battle top-seeded Stanford on its home court, Maples Pavilion, Saturday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. The Cardinal and Aggies have met three times over the past four regular seasons, with the Cardinal coming out victorious each time, most recently earning a 76-51 win in Davis on Nov. 22, 2009. Cal Poly (18-12, 12-4) makes its first postseason appearance Thursday, March 17 when it welcomes California to Mott Gym, where the Mustangs were 9-3 this season. The Bears own a 17-15 overall mark and finished sixth in the Pac-10 standings with a 7-11 record.

Cal Poly could potentially face conference foe UC Riverside in the second round as the victor of the Mustangs-Golden Bears matchup is slated to face either UC Riverside or Colorado.

The Highlanders, playing in their second WNIT in three years, travel to the Rocky Mountains to take on Colorado on Thursday, March 17, at the Coors Events Center. UC Riverside finished third in the Big West with an 11-5 conference mark and a 19-12 overall record.
