Big West play is in full swing with less than six weeks to the 2011 ampm Big West Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament at Honda Center! The men's and women's races are heating up with undefeated teams at the top of the standings. And spring is here, as men's and women's tennis gets going in earnest this weekend!
Men's Basketball
First place Long Beach State has opened Big West play 6-0, marking the program's best conference start since the 1999-2000 season. The 49ers travel to Orange County rivals Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine this week.
For the sixth year in a row, all home and conference games will be broadcast by the institutions on BigWest.TV, the conference's video streaming initiative in partnership with CBS College Sports.

Women's Basketball
he featured game for this week takes place in the central coast where league-leading Cal Poly welcomes second place UC Riverside to Mott Gym. The two teams take to the court Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Last week the Mustangs snuck by Cal State Fullerton, 75-72, and UC Irvine, 72-70, to maintain a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play, while UC Riverside (3-1) downed Cal State Northridge and handed UC Santa Barbara its worst conference loss since Jan. 30, 1993 when it fell to then-member UNLV, 89-51. The Highlanders defeated the Gauchos 81-48 at the Student Recreation Center on Saturday, Jan. 15. Cal Poly also hosts the Matadors on Saturday.
Other Big West matchups include UC Santa Barbara entertaining Cal State Fullerton at The Thunderdome, Pacific facing NorCal foe UC Davis and Long Beach State taking on UC Irvine in the Black & Blue series.

Tennis
The 2011 men's and women's tennis seasons open in earnest this weekend! The non-conference slate is filled to the brim, beginning on Friday for the men and with an early-week matchup against ranked foe USC for the Cal State Northridge women on Tuesday.
The 2011 Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Championships are a scant three months away a Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California, April 28 through May 2.

Women's Water Polo
No. 12 UC Santa Barbara will kick off the 2011 season this weekend, on the road in Northern California. The runner-up in last year's Big West Women's Water Polo Championships will face Cal State Monterey Bay to open the season Friday, the move on to Cal State East Bay and the Cal Invitational. No. 15 Cal State Northridge will also open on the road at No. 8 Michigan in the Michigan Invitational Saturday, while No. 17 UC Davis opens the season at home.
UC Santa Barbara will be the host institution for the 2011 Big West Women's Water Polo Championships April 29 through May 2.
