The Big West Conference will begin its 42nd season this year and has locked in some type notch facilities to host its 2010-11 championships. This past March the conference announced the beginning of its five-year partnership with Honda Center to host the Big West Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. The tournament will begin for the women on campus sites on Tuesday, March 8 with the winners moving to the semifinals and finals at Honda Center on Friday and Saturday of tournament week. The men’s tournament begins at Honda Center on Thursday, March 10 with four quarterfinal games being played. The tournament continues through Saturday with the conference champion being crowned.
Joining Honda Center among prestigious championship sites continues to be Indian Wells Tennis Garden, which begins its eighth straight year of hosting the conference tennis championships. Indian Wells is one of the top tennis facilities in the country and annually hosts the BNP Paribas Open. The conference tennis championship begins Thursday, April 28.
A bit earlier in the spring season, Tijeras Creek Golf Club welcomes back the conference’s lady golfers for the Big West Women’s Golf Championship. Tijeras Creek has been home to the 106th SCGA Amateur Championship, the RSM Open and four other Big West golf championship events. The women will tee it up beginning Sunday, April 17.
Mission Viejo Country Club is another first class facility hosting a conference championship, welcoming the Big West’s men’s golfers to the course in the first week of May. It will be the second consecutive year the course has hosted the conference championship. The men begin play Monday, May 2.
The conference championship schedule also includes campus sites hosting the cross country championships, men’s and women’s soccer tournaments, women’s water polo tournament and the track and field championships.
