Former Long Beach State golfer Paul Goydos recorded the fourth 59 in PGA Tour history, and the first in 11 years , Thursday at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill. Goydos, a graduate of Wilson High School in Long Beach, is 12-under par after the first round.

David Duval was the last PGA Tour player to shoot 59, at the 1999 Bob Hope at the PGA West's Palmer Course. Al Geiberger was the first player to shoot a 59 when he did it during the 1977 Memphis Classic.

Goydos, who's 59 is the only one to come on a par-71 course, has gone as low as 65 this year and as high as 81.

With a top five finish in the 1985 Big West Men's Golf Championship, the Coto de Caza, Calif., resident was successful during his stint in the Big West Conference.
