Nine Athletes Claim All-America Status Following NCAA Track & Field Championships

The USTFCCCA announced its annual All-America list following the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and nine Big West athletes were a part of the prestigious group. A total of 523 awards were presented to 428 individuals as a result of a national top-eight finish in this past weekend's DI Championships in Eugene, Ore. In addition, the top eight finishing athletes among U.S. citizens from the NCAA Championships gain All-America status.

On the men's side, the national honors were given to three athletes from the track events and one from the field competitions. UC Santa Barbara picked up a pair of the awards in Julian deRubira (steeplechase) and Ryan Martin (800), while UC Irvine's Charles Jock also received the accolade to round out the track trio. The field recepient is familiar with the All-America process as Cal State Northridge's Reindell Cole received his second career national mention in the long jump.

The women's honors went to two athletes from the track events, two more from the field events and one in the heptathlon. The track mentions went to UC Riverside's Brenda Martinez (1500) and UC Santa Barbara's Danielle Domenichelli (10000), field accolades went to Long Beach State's Randi Hicks (javelin) and UCSB's Jane Doolittle (high jump), while the Gauchos also picked up the award in the multi events as Barbara Nwaba took home the honor.
