Pacific junior Jenifer Widjaja came up short in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship, losing 6-1, 6-4 to North Carolina's Sanaz Marand Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The University of Georgia is the host school for the event.

Widjaja, making her second straight appearance in the NCAA singles tournament, overcame a shaky first set to contend in the second.  She lost the last four games of the first set to fall 6-1.  However, Widjaja held a 4-3 lead in the second set after breaking Marand's serve.  Marand then broke Widjaja's serve in the subsequent game to tie the set at 4-4, and won the next two games to close out the match.

Widjaja's 13-match win streak in singles was snapped and she finished the season with a 30-8 record.  The 30 wins is a Pacific record.  Widjaja posted a 19-3 record in spring dual matches at the No. 1 position for the Tigers.

She is ranked No. 82 in the May 3 edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.  Marand is No. 21 in the rankings.
