UC Irvine lost 4-0 to Cal in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA.

The Anteaters vied for the doubles point but came up short.  UCI won at No. 3 doubles, getting a 9-7 triumph from Khunpol Issara and Sam Gould against the Cal tandem of Bozhidar Katsarov and Sky Lovill.  But the 'Eaters lost at the two remaining positions, the toughest occurring at No. 1 where Zac Tsai and Steven Henderson were narrowly edged, 8-6, by Jonathan Dahan and Pedro Zerbini.

In singles, UCI fell at the No. 3, 5 and 6 spots as the Golden Bears clinched the match.  Issara was defeated by Katsarov 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5.  Riki McLachlan trumped Ryan Mayer 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 to give the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead.

Shimpei Suzuki battled valiantly, but could not overcome Nick Andrews as Cal's No. 3 player earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory to clinch the team win.

UCI, making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005, finished its season at 17-12.
