A busy weekend of track & field produced four different weekly award winners as Julian deRubira of UC Santa Barbara, Kiara Reed of UC Davis, Reindell Cole of Cal State Northridge and Lauren Reid of UC Riverside each claimed an honor.
DeRubira and Reed won the Men's and Women's Track Athlete of the Week accolades, respectively.
DeRubira, a junior from Aliso Viejo, finished first in the steeplechase (8:48.92) at the Cal Poly/UCSB dual meet. His time is tops in the Big West this season, ranks 12th in the West Region and is just two seconds off the school record.
Reed, a sophomore from Chico, finished fifth in the third section of the 800 (2:09.78) at the Payton Jordan Invitational. The time is a PR for Reed, ranks her fourth in the Big West and places her in the top five all-time at UC Davis.
Cole and Reid took the Men's and Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, respectively.
Cole, a junior from Las Vegas, Nev., won his second field weekly honor of 2010 after a solid performance in the long jump at the Steve Scott Invitational. He put up a mark of 25-5.50 to win the event.
Reid, a senior from Oxnard, put up two excellent performances at the Steve Scott Invitational. In the the long jump, Reid finished first with a mark of 20-4.25, while her 42-7.50 showing in the triple jump placed her in second. Reid set school records in both events.
