Jenifer Widjaja of Pacific consummated a brilliant 2010 campaign with her selection as the 2010 Big West Women's Tennis Player of the Year to headline the all-conference team today.  UC Irvine's Mike Edles garnered Coach of the Year honors while Long Beach State's Jaklin Alawi was tabbed the Freshman of the Year.
   
Widjaja, a native of Sao Roque, Brazil, finished 18-3 in dual matches at No. 1 singles for the Tigers.  She has been highed as high as No. 73 in the national rankings this season and is currently listed at No. 82.  The junior posted an 8-0 mark against Big West opponents in 2010, defeating fellow first team all-league player Courtney Byron of UC Irvine twice.  In addition, she also beat Cal Poly's Suzie Matzenauer, Long Beach State's Anais Dallara and UC Santa Barbara's Sofia Novak from the All-Big West First Team.  Widjaja completed the season on a 12-match win streak.
   
Edles led the Anteaters to their first Big West Tournament championship last weekend in Indian Wells.  UC Irvine defeated Pacific, UC Santa Barbara and six-time defending champion Long Beach State to hoist the trophy.  This is the fourth time Edles has received the top coaching honor, after winning previously in 2000, 2002 and 2007.  The Anteaters went 13-10 in the regular season and finished in a three-way tie for second place in the Big West at 6-2.  In his 14th season at UCI, Edles will take the Anteater into the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Mississippi.
   
Alawi is the fourth Long Beach State player to capture top freshman honors in the six years the Big West has had the award.  A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Alawi finished 16-7 in dual matches this season.  She had a 9-5 record at No. 1, 3-1 at No. 2 and 4-1 and No. 3.  She also captured first team all-conference honors in doubles with teammate Rachel Manasse.
