UC Irvine Holds Lead Following Day One Of Big West Men's Golf Championships

Two grueling rounds of play are in the books at the 2010 Big West Men's Golf Championship and UC Irvine finds itself in the lead with an even par 576. The Anteaters will go for the crown tomorrow with the final round of the 2010 Championship set to commence 7:30 am tomorrow. The tournament is being held at Mission Viejo Country Club in Mission Viejo, Calif.

UCI holds the lead after putting together consecutive rounds of 288 for the first two rounds. Second place belongs to Pacific at +15, while third place is split between UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State at +16. Cal State Northridge sits in fifth at +20 with UC Davis (+28) and Cal Poly (+35) wrapping up day one in sixth and seventh, respectively. Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside round out the standings with a score of +37.

On the individual side of things, UCI's John Chin battled cramps in round two but finished -6 for the day after rounds of 68 and 70. Chris Russo of Cal State Northridge sits just two shots back at -4, while Pace Johnson of Cal Poly is third at -2. UC Santa Barbara's Andrew Gunson and Pacific's Patrick Kucich are in a tie for 4th at even par. Chin and Johnson also carded the low round of the day at 68, both of which came in round one.
