UCI's John Chin Named to U.S. Palmer Cup Squad

UC Irvine senior John Chin has been selected to compete for the United States in the Palmer Cup, an annual Ryder Cup-style competition to be played June 24-26 at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland.

Chin, the first Anteater chosen for the Palmer Cup, is joined on the U.S. side by Florida's Tyson Alexander, Stanford's David Chung, Dustin Garza of Wichita State, Georgia's Russell Henley, Daniel Miernicki of Oregon, Charlotte's Corey Nagy and Jonathan Randolph of Mississippi. The squad is opposed by a European contingent of James Byrne and Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State, East Tennessee State's Rhys Enoch, David Lingmerth of Arkansas, Augusta State's Henrik Norlander, Andrea Pavan of Texas A&M, Stirling's Patrick Spraggs and Pontus Widegren of UCLA.

Chin, who has a 69.84 average this season is ranked No. 2 in this week's Golfstat Cup.  He ranks No. 1 in the nation in par-4 scoring (3.96) and is second in greens in regulation (.797).  He is ranked No. 11 by Golfweek. The two-time Big West Conference Player of the Year has nine top-10 finishes this season, including three firsts.  He has placed in the top four in seven of the last eight tournaments.

The event is named for golfing legend Arnold Palmer. The European squad won the tournament last summer to push the all-time series to a 6-6-1 tie.
