The Big West announced the names of 70 student-athletes from nine member institutions who have earned Academic All-Big West Conference honors for the winter sports of men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's swimming and diving today. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Men's and women's swimming and diving had 23 student-athletes apiece recognized for all-academic honors. Twenty women's basketball student-athletes earned all-academic accolades.
UC Santa Barbara topped all schools with 17 honorees, including a league-high tying seven in women's swimming and diving. UC Davis also had seven swimming and diving student-athletes honored among the 16 Aggies recognized. Cal Poly provided a total of 11 honorees, while Cal State Northridge and Pacific had eight and six, respectively.
Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Irvine and UC Riverside do not compete in swimming and diving, but were represented on the all-academic team in basketball. The Titans and 49ers tallied four honorees apiece in women's basketball. The Anteaters had a member each from the men's and women's basketball teams, as did the Highlanders in the sport of women's basketball.
