The Pacific men's basketball team earned a spot in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament field for the second straight season as the Tigers play at Loyola Marymount in the first round on Wednesday, March 17. Tip time is set for 7:35 p.m.
The Tigers won two games in last year's inaugural CIT, beating Portland and Idaho at home before falling in the semifinals at Bradley. Pacific is 20-11 overall and earned a share of the Big West regular season title with UC Santa Barbara after finishing 12-4.
Pacific's matchup with LMU marks the fifth opponent from the West Conference that the Tigers will have faced this season. The Tigers split games against Santa Clara, defeated Pepperdine and San Diego, and lost to Saint Mary's. They are 3-2 against WCC teams in 2009-10.
The tournament consists of 15 games: Eight first-round games, four second-round games, two semifinal games and a championship game. In an effort to minimize travel and limit class time missed, teams will be bracketed geographically.
Pacific and Portland are the only holdovers from the inaugural tournament.
The second round of the CIT will begin next week, with information about seeding and sites determined after the conclusion of the first round.
