ESPNU will televise a total of four Big West baseball and softball games this spring, announced Commissioner Dennis Farrell on Wednesday.
The 24-hour college sports network will air the Sunday, April 11 baseball game between perennial Big West powers Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine. First pitch at Cicerone Field at Anteater Ballpark is 2:00 p.m. (PT)/5:00 p.m. (ET). Both programs are currently ranked nationally in the top 10, with the Anteaters and Titans rated as high as No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
On Saturday, May 8, the Long Beach State at Cal State Fullerton softball doubleheader will be televised at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (PT)/2:30 and 5:00 p.m. (ET). The matchup pits two programs which have combined to win 10 of the last 12 Big West softball titles.
The final ESPNU telecast will take place on the California Central Coast as UC Irvine travels to San Luis Obispo for a baseball showdown against Cal Poly on Sunday, May 9. The Mustangs advanced to their first NCAA Tournament in 2009. First pitch is 2:00 p.m. (PT)/5:00 p.m. (ET).
The announcement of these four games brings the Big West's total number of appearances to 12 as part of the conference's television package with ESPN. The package includes five regular season men's basketball games on ESPN2 or ESPNU, two men's basketball tournament semifinal games on ESPNU, and the men's basketball tournament championship game on ESPN2.
