UCD's Weltz, UCSB's Stover Claim Final Swim Honors of '09-10
The final Big West swimming & diving weekly honors of the season went to the two programs that have won their fair share this season as UC Davis' Scott Weltz and UC Santa Barbara's Katie Stover were awarded the men's and women's accolades, respectively. It is the third weekly honor won by an Aggie this year, while the Gauchos have come away with seven citations.
Weltz, a native of San Jose, Calif., led UCD to a dual meet victory against perennial league power UC Santa Barbara, the first time the Aggies have beaten the Gauchos. The senior came away with three individual wins, touching the wall in 1:49.85 in the 200 fly, 2:02.70 in the 200 breast and 1:52.07 in the 200 IM. Weltz also swam a 25.60 breast split in the 200 medley relay, the fastest breast split in the league over the weekend.
Stover, who hails from Rocklin, Calif., in a pair of dual meets against UC Davis and Pacific. Against the Aggies, Stover picked up a first place finish in the 200 free (1:51.83) and a third place showing in the 100 free (52.28). Against the Tigers, she posted two more first place finishes in the 50 free (24.16) and 200 back (2:03.00).
