A total of 117 student-athletes from nine member institutions were honored on the 2009 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic Team today for the sports of women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's cross country. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Women's soccer led all sports with 39 student-athletes and women's cross country had 34 recognized. Twenty women's volleyball student-athletes earned all-academic accolades. Men's soccer and men's cross country each accumulated 16 and eight all-academic honorees, respectively.
UC Irvine led all Big West institutions with 20 Fall All-Academic selections, followed by UC Riverside with 16. UC Santa Barbara placed 15 student-athletes on the team, while Pacific contributed 14 and UC Davis 13. Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge tied with 12 certificates apiece, followed by Long Beach State with eight and Cal Poly with seven.
