A meet at the site of the Big West Swim Championships is on the docket this weekend, the final competition on the schedule prior to the New Year.

Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara will travel to the familiar pool at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif., to take place in the prestigious Finis Collegiate Invitational. The three day event attracts some of the top teams and individuals in the nation and is the last meet involving any league teams until  January 2.

After a brief hiatus, the Big West swim schedule was back in action as three teams competed in meets outside of the state of California.

UC Davis headed to scenic Austin, Texas for the nationally-renown Texas Invitational held at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas. The Aggie squads more than held their own against some of the nation's finest as the men finished fourth and the women wrapped up the meet in 11th.

UC Santa Barbara and Pacific were both up in Federal Way, Wash., for the U.S. Short Course Nationals in Federal Way, Wash.

The Gauchos had one male and one female swimmer up at the meet in Tim Freeman and Anne Marie May, respectively. Freeman, the brother of former UCSB great Katy Freeman, took first place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.15, while May competed in the 100 free and finished with a time of 1:06.49.

Members of Pacific's men's and women's teams also hit the pool in Federal Way, highlighted by the 18th place finish of the women's 400 medley relay team (3:50.38), Elena Waltermann finishing 39th in the 100 fly (56.55), Kevin Byers completing the 400 IM in 4:10.93 and Melissa McGhee’s 39th place finish in the 200 fly (2:04.03).
