UCD's Weltz, PAC's Albiston Earn Swim Athlete of the Week Nods


UC Davis' Scott Weltz and Pacific's K.C. Albiston grabbed the final Big West Swimmer of the Week honors of the calendar year after solid performances at big time meets.

Weltz, a native of San Jose, Calif., was outstanding for the Aggies at the Texas Invitational, swimming in an astounding seven events. The senior, who won Big West Athlete of the Year honors a year ago, recorded marks of 46.90 in the 100 fly, 1:45.48 in the 200 IM, 48.56 in the 100 back, 54.84 in the 100 breast, 1:38.46 in the 200 free, 1:57.61 in the 200 breast and 45.78 in the 100 free. Weltz’ 100 fly, back and breast marks were personal bests, his 200 IM time is the 2nd best in the country and his 200 breast and 100 fly times are in the top 10 in the NCAA.In addition, all of his times aside from the 100 free lead the Big West.

Albiston, who hails from Salt Lake City, Utah, competed for the Tigers at the U.S. Short Course Nationals in Federal Way, Wash. The senior swam in the 400 IM race, finishing with a season-best time of 4:30.69. Her time is the sixth-best mark in the conference this season.
